Friends of Mine

I practiced great restraint in this painting. The arrangement called out for delicate color and I have a tendency to want to add warm vibrant color. I was able to pull it off. I did have to lock it away from myself though!

In The Long Run

My new favorite theme is the meadow painting. The wild flowers save the landscape from being boring. I just love making a kind of chain with the organic shapes of the flowers. They are connected and not connected at the same time.; kind of like shoppers on Fifth Avenue in New York City the Friday after Thanksgiving. They are alike because they are crowded together on the same street with the same purpose but they all go home to different homes at night and don’t have much else in common. You can tell I have an active imagination. It gets me in trouble sometime!

Wow Me

i have painted many  bouquets over the past years. Each time I start one I have every intention to paint exactly what I see but it never turns out that way.It is not because I don’t like what I see; it is just that the plan changes. Somehow I add a little more purple, move the yellow over to the right a little, etc. All the while I am consciously balancing the values, symmetry and contrast in the painting.
I am also reading your mind right now. You are thinking that you might not want to eat blueberry muffins made by me since I might change the recipe too much! I only change the rules in painting- you are safe to eat my muffins!

Graduation

As I was painting this floral, it began to remind me of a group of students at a high school or college  graduation. Everyone is fresh and alert , full of hope for the future. At one of our daughter’s college graduation we had flown in straight from a business trip of my husband's in Hawaii. And I mean straight from the airport to the ceremony of a large university.I literally had to hold my eyelids open; fighting a severe case of jet lag!

Hankering

This is an 11x14 oil painting on panel. The title is one someone who is not from the south might not understand. It means “ a strong desire to have or do something”I have a strong hankering to paint flowers all the time” is something I might say. Or I might just as well have a hankering for a piece of chocolate cake. Both are pleasurable but only one causes weight gain.

A Simple Thing

Interiors are a favorite of mine to paint. Beside the fact that there are no mosquitos and easy access to a bathroom there is climate control! Sunny days are of course the best. The light adds drama to the ordinary.

Conversations With Friends

This is a 36x36 inch painting on stretched canvas. It is the kind of painting that just evolved— the most fun kind of painting! I started with an underpainting of random colors in acrylic and painted in oils over those colors. I like how the colors underneath peek through as a surprise for the viewer— and for the artist too😋!

Que Sera Sera

Something about this painting seems a little French to me— it could be the subtle colors found in the whites. There is usually not a pure white in a paiing like this. So much of the color comes from light or shadow. In the case of flowers; the color can even be found in the petals of the flowers. If you look closely, many colors such as greens, pinks, purples and gray are visible.

Odds Are in your Favor

This painting remains much more subtle in color application. Although I love bright bold colors; this quiet painting carries a lot of impact. It could be called a “white “ painting but of course is so much more than pure white. My favorite part is the green tinged blooms.

Change Your Mind

This is from a new series of more abstract florals .I may have found something that I love more than any other way I have painted. The time spent has been so much fun that time passes by unnoticed.
Of course to get to this place has taken a lot of years of realism and attention to detail to be able to do this. Intuition rules!

WITH GREAT AFFECTION

i had the best time painting this floral painting. The reference was similar but it turned out very different by the time I had finished.Sometimes every now and then everything just goes right, rhis  was one of those times. The color choices worked out  to complement each other. Maybe I will give myself a raise!
