Sarah's Birthday

This bright and happy painting reminds me of my daughter Sarah who was born on this day (Sept.29). I am so proud of her. She is funny, beautiful, a one time marathon runner, an excellent art teacher and a good friend to many.Happy birthday Sarah!

Target Audience

This is a small (8x10) painting of a LOT of flower containers. When there are so many different flowers it is good to have something to tie them all together. The similar pots bring the riot of flowers together.A happy place, don't you think?

Headliner

These are the irises that I brought from my parents' home in Mississippi years ago. They have multiplied over the years and I have so many blooms every spring.
Both of my parents have been gone for quite while but I always take some comfort when I see them blooming.

Night Iris

These iris seem almost lit from inside. They are accompanied by their wingman friends the snowballs; all are ready for a night of clubbing.

Rudesheim

We rode a gondola in Rudesheim up to the statue of Germania while in Germany. This is a view from the gondola down where some vineyards were located. It was a cloudy day and I didn't notice the lit lamps until I looked at the photo later. It gives the picture a mysterious look.

Out of Darkness

I don't often use black oil paint; preferring to mix other darks to get a richer color. Gamblin paints have come out with a new Chromatic Black and I bought some. I used it to mix with the dark greens in this painting to make the flowers pop and seem to come forward. It isn't necessary but it is a nice shortcut for my palette.

August Morning

This is another view from our morning walks. Every time I paint one of these it turns out completely different. Every sunrise is different so I won't run out of subject matter.

Focus Group

I took a lot of photos while on our trip to Europe. Although the vegetables were sometimes strange looking, the flowers were mostly familiar. I wonder if the speak French or German?

Blessing

We are back home from Europe. I woke up at 2:30 a.m so I got up like it was normal and packaged paintings to be shipped. I know I will pass out later.
Our trip was wonderful! I took so many photos and I can't wait to start painting. Maybe after a nap.
