Garden Chorus

These pots seem to stand on risers awaiting direction from their choir director. The tulips are the altos, daffodils are sopranos. If only I could carry a tune in real life!

Good Humor

Sometime simple is best. I paint hydrangeas a lot. I try to show the light source. In this particular painting the light source is above the flowers.I keep being drawn back to the lovely shapes.

Blissful

It is little tricky to paint a subject with a lot of colors represented. I have to be conscious of keeping harmony in the composition. This is hopefully done by repeating colors and placing the to make the eye move around the picture plane; but not exit!

Dawn Illumination

I like the early morning light for painting. It makes ordinary objects have a glow. The late afternoon has a similar effect but it also shows up the dust in my house so I have a love/hate
relationship there.

Dress Code

This is a watercolor that I painted a while ago. I have been away from watercolor for a while but will take a workshop in early August. The artist Paul Jackson is coming to Memphis and I am looking forward to attending the workshop. Visiting watercolor again will be like seeing an old friend. I have come to realize that painting in oil or watercolor is still just making art, no matter which medium.

Room to Grow

This painting is partially from a photo and partially from my mind. It was fun to just paint shapes that I felt were important to the composition. I am happy to call myself an artist and to have the freedom to paint what I want to paint!

Take a Chance

This is precisely my favorite kind of painting to do. I enjoy the negative spaces and the contrast of the darks and lights. It is ALMOST better than chocolate.

Illuminated

A goal of painted is to be able to create atmosphere. Sometimes it is a happy accident; often it is a struggle. I have painted mist on a pond and early morning fog. This sunshine was a delight to paint!

Marblehead Float

Last year at this time we spent a week in Boston.Marblehead is a beautiful coastal town nearby. The harbor had all kinds of boats but this small one all alone caught my eye. The colors were a little dull but I took care of that!
