Roadside Pond

On our recent trip to Missouri we stopped at a roadside park to eat lunch. We decide to walk around the pond nearby that had a walking trail. Our plans changed when several geese blocked our way. They were a little intimidating but at least I took a photo to paint from

Blues on Monday

Hydrangeas are endless in their variety. I liked the different shades of blue that show up in this bouquet.

Sunflowers at the Window

It is interesting to find out how many varieties there are of sunflowers. Although I like the ones with the dark centers, the ones with a dark gold center are very beautiful.

Lilac Bucket

I miss lilacs since moving back south. That incredible smell just can't be described. The silver of the bucket is perfect with the flowers.

Florence Market

Florence was my favorite European city to visit so far. The market is fantastic. I painted this from one of my many many photos.I love all of the colors!

Lavender Country

This is a painting of the French lavender fields.I was feeling more impressionistic with this one.People always ask how long does it take to paint a painting. The answer is maybe an hour plus 40 years! Although actual painting time isn't often long (especially for a small painting) the years it took to get to this point are many.

Sunrise

This oil painting is of another view on the golf course. Every morning there is an ever changing view, whether it is a brilliant sunrise or a misty fog. It is fun to try and paint the different ways the scenery appears.

I posted earlier a 16x20 painting that was a " practice" for this larger painting that was a commission. I finished this large painting last week and delivered it. I am glad to say the client was happy with the end result. Whew! I am always a little nervous when doing a commission. I am looking forward to doing more of these large paintings.

Basket Trio

I love Baskets. My dad learned how to make split oak baskets from an old man who lived out in the country. He made himself a contraption to split the wood, soaked the pieces and wove the baskets. He had to stop when his arthritis got too bad. Those baskets are treasured in our family now that he is gone. I think that was the way his artistic side was expressed. I'm glad he passed that creativity down to me.

Italian Street

I have boxes of photos of Italy and France. When I look back through them I regret not labeling each one with location. I was sure I wouldn't forget; but of course I did. The streets were so charming. There was always something delightful at every turn.

Remainder

Every once in a while there are some good flower bouquets in the marked down bin at the grocery store. These flowers were gorgeous at a great price! Flowers are my favorite thing to paint.

Reflection

Here I am with a window again! Something about doors and windows always has a strong appeal to me. The reflection becomes the most important part of the painting.

Yellow Variety

I know daffodils are past their season, but a little Spring never hurt anyone! Especially almost August in the south. I love it here but the only thing that survives the heat right now are the crape myrtles.

Blue Table

I chose this odd assortment of containers. They only have flowers in common, but it is enough.Every painting is a little adventure- I never know how it will turn out. Some days successful but some still go on the reject pile.I guess it is a metaphor for life!

Foggy Morning

I have been enjoying our morning walks this week. We walk the golf course and it is never the same. Yesterday morning there was a light fog settling over the course. I took some photos and this is the painting I made. I concentrated on the values; trying to paint all the lights and darks balanced by the mid tones.Iam hoping all this thinking will help prevent brain decline!

Tuscan Study

This painting is a study (16x20) for a much larger painting (36x48) that I am doing for a commission. Normally 16x20 is as large as I usually do. This time I am working up to the large canvas. Wish me luck!

Sunset

We passed these structures on the way home from the beach. I am pretty sure they are some kind of grain elevators. Whatever they are,I love the shapes silhouetted against the sky.

DICHOTOMY

Okay, it sounds like I am just showing off vocabulary prowess. It really was the first word that came to mind when I was thinking of naming this painting. The two distinctly different colors of flowers are the story here.( I confess that I did look up the word to make sure I spelled it correctly!)

Blue Vase

Enjoying the Sun

Lily Number Three

I am drawn to windows and doors when choosing something to paint.This caught my interest because of the contrast of the straight lines with the curvy plants and flowers.
