Zest
I have often described flowers by their personalities.Zinnias are the student council flowers. Always cheerful, hard working in the vegetable gardens, teacher's pet are the qualities of the zinnia. They would be elected most popular but not necessarily invited to the debutante ball.

Loves to Dance
I think of Geraniums as quite social and gregarious in the flower world.they have strong stems and bright colors, not easily beaten down by rain or wind. Of course they would be the first onto the dance floor. The delphiniums in the corner would be gossiping about those brash geraniums; but who is having more fun?

Another Story
This painting started out quite differently from the way it looks now. I liked the colors I had painted but it looked like a wall paper sample! No center of interest. I stared at it for a few days, then added some larger flowers that made all the difference. I wasn't paying attention to the elements and principles of design. Works every time you remember!

BEST INTEREST
I attended a Dreama Tolle Perry workshop in Kentucky about three years ago. It was actually there that I got inspiration to join Daily Paintworks. It has really changed my life .I went from painting occasionally to painting every day. Over 900 paintings later, I can see the difference it has made. I always wanted to go back and take another workshop with her but timing was never right. She has created an online 6 session workshop that starts next week. I am so excited to do this! This painting was done as "practice" for the work I will do in the course. I used the transparent colors she recommends and her "ice blue". I will let you know how it works out!

AFTER HOURS
This oil painting is on a thick stretched 24x 36 inch stretched canvas with black painted outside edge. I have painted mostly smaller paintings through daily paintworks because of cost of shipping larger paintings. Most likely this will end up sold locally or on a wall in my house!

Stars Aligned
I have started painting some on stretched canvas. This is an 8x8 with a thick profile with the edges painted black. This type ofpainting is meant to be hung without a frame. Painting on this type canvas has a different feel to it while painting, but I like it.I think back to the "dark ages" of the '70's when in college we stretched our own canvases and gessoed them. These canvases were pretty rough to paint on and I never got the painting in my head onto the canvas. The panels and canvas of the current day are so wonderful to paint on; I will never stretch again!

Time Change
I titled this one because the view has an expectant feeling, like maybe it is almost a seasonal time change or a change in weather is approaching. This is my favorite type of painting to do; i start with areas of color and transform them into flowers using darks and lights. I kind of hold my breath during- excited to see how it turns out.

Spanish Village
I had to wait to post this painting until after Christmas because it was a gift for someone and I was afraid he might see it on here. It has emotional content. This is a view of the village in Spain where his mother grew up. His family surprised him with it on Christmas.
It was a large (24x36) aiming but it shipped just fine to Delaware.

Tulip Elevation
I really enjoy painting flowers in the winter. No matter how cold it is outside I am transported to a summer or spring day while painting. We are still having family visiting post New Years but I have still found time to paint at random times. I have figured out that painting is my Xanax- I maintain a pretty low blood pressure, maybe painting is the reason!

2015
This is my#2015bestnine on Instagram; that is the most"liked" for the year. It is interesting to see which drew the most likes. Six out of the nine are already sold. The Internet has really changed the way art changes hands. The bricks and mortar galleries have their place and purpose and will always be here. But all of the sites on the web where artists can sell their paintings directly have really become popular.
I am still amazed to have sold paintings in England, Scotland, Ireland,Germany and Australia. This would have been impossible 25 years ago.

Transparent
Since this is the last day of 2015 I should say something important. I can say that this has been a good year; I have traveled to some wonderful places, laughed a lot with friends and ended the year enjoying family. I was listening to the White House photographer on tv this morning. He was asked about his favorite photograph. He said "My favorite photo is one I will take later today or tomorrow."
I feel that way about painting. There is always the challenge to match that perfect painting in my head to the one that shows up on canvas.i am glad that hasn't happened yet because it keeps me working hard.
Happy New Year!

All About the Hats
My daughter gave me some comfy pajamas for Christmas but she also found something she knew I would love. She found a tiny old photo at an antique shop of these people. I would love to know the story behind this. Were these hats the current style of the day? Perhaps they were in a secret hat society!

Long View
These past weeks have been incredibly busy with all things associated with the holidays. I needed today to sit and take a breath. I still have planning for meals next week and preparations for out of town guests. But today I will relax and take the Long View. Everything will get done but I will also enjoy the journey.

Lovejoy
I live in a large neighborhood with over 500 houses. The names of streets are typical; some are golf related. We walk around the streets often and I came across a street named Lovejoy! What a delightful name. I wish I could trade my house for any house on that street and would like to be to order a return address stamp !

Blooms at the Door
My parent had a lot of hydrangeas growing in their yard.Seeing the flowers now reminds me of time spent with them.
Today I was making cookies for a big cookie sale we are having at church this weekend. I have a very large restaurant style stainless steel bowl that my mother gave me years ago and I used it to make the cookies. It gives me comfort to use it as using one of the quilts she made also does. It feels like she is here with me in those moments.

Nature Calls
Imagine you are a child sitting in a garden hoping to catch a grasshopper or a butterfly. I remember finding caterpillars and putting them in a shoebox hoping for a butterfly to emerge. The cocoon happened but don't think the whole cycle came to fruition. It was still a wonderful world of nature. I hate that children don't have the freedom to wander outdoors all day like we did.

Knockout Style
Full House
I have always had an attraction to doors. 25 years ago I got a poster of "doors of New York", since then I have taken many photos in every city we have visited. I have some from Boston to Italy. I have started painting some of them. This white door has some mystery about what lies behind the other side.

Four if by Land
These four 6x6 inch panels make a good grouping of landscape paintings. They can be framed together or separated to give as gifts or displayed on metal easels.
Although I paint more flowers I do enjoy landscapes. I am always clicking my camera out of the car window as we drive down the road; some end up a little blurry!

Table Favorites
Nasturtiums are a favorite flower of mine but I realized I have never painted them. I love the round leaves and the gorgeous oranges and yellows. The leaf and stem system is pretty complicated so maybe that is why I have avoided painting them.My birthday resolution this year is to be a little more daring along with being more mature.I can still be quite immature when talking with my good friends on our Facebook group message. These friends go back almost 50 years and I admit we are still those giggling junior high girls.

FourxFour
This is a grouping of four 6x6 paintings. There were scattered on a table where I photograph my art work and I noticed they looked good grouped together. I am offering them on Daily Paintworks.com as a group for a discounted price. They would work grouped on a wall or as 4 different Christmas gifts!
