DIVA
This painting reminds me of a self possessed diva on a stage somewhere. She is fully in command and brimming with self confidence.I remember one of the first Barbie outfits that came out. It was a black narrow evening gown with a tulle flounce at the bottom. It came with a microphone stand for Barbie to deliver concerts. That girl is multitalented! I see her as a diva just as this strong vase of flowers.

Personal Space
Have you ever noticed how some people invade your personal space when talking to you?It is like they never learned the simple rules of conversation. These tulips seem to have their personal space invaded. Of course they don't really mind. I like painting these close up views; it allows the viewer to make their own conclusions about what is missing from the picture-- a kind of fill in the blanks exercise.

By The Tracks
I have always been drawn to watertowers. I don't know why; it is something about the shape or the fullness of the tank. I can imagine cupping it in my hand if it were miniature. I know that sounds weird but what can I say. I have collected photos of them across the country.I have several from NYC but I realized in San Francisco I didn't see any. I guess maybe it is the earth quake factor.

Dream Come True
Tulips have always been one of my very favorite flowers. I remember in 4th grade writing to holland tourism and bulb companies for posters hoping they would feature tulips. I think they did send some to me. Reference material was difficult to come by in those days!

Tuesday News
This 6x6 painting on gessoboard is my favorite kind of painting. I choose a close up view and concentrate on shapes and values. Voila! It becomes a painting.

Confetti Time
I enjoyed painting these pink geraniums. I am taking an online Dream Perry workshop that emphasizes the use of transparent colors in the initial layer of paint. After starting with mostly dark transparents ; then opaque colors are added to lighten up the painting- the icing on the cake! A joyful process.

Winter Red
I love my bargain Amarylis. I bought it the week after Christmas for half price. It bloomed that week but last week bloomed again with 4 beautiful blooms. I wanted to paint more than just one plant so I repeated the plant at different angles on the canvas.next year I will buy more than one!

Oak Leaf Dance
Yes, I am obsessed with hydrangeas. My parents had several of these oakleaf hydrangeas along with the traditional blue. The leaves of this plant turn into beautiful reds and golds in the fall.

March Madness
I love all varieties of daffodils, narcissus, etc. I have in my yard several kinds of the bulbs planted- yellow and white , doubles, peach centers, orange centers. They are hardier than tulips; they come back every year reliably. I think it is their arrival that gives us hope for the warmer days to come.

Counting Stars
I am reminded of the quote "Comparison is the Thief of Joy" when looking at this painting. Who says there has to be one star of the show?I count three stars to this show, each one valued for what it is.Of course there should be a definite center of interest in a painting, but I think each star builds upon the other, leading you around the painting.

GOING HOME
My Friend came over yesterday and saw this painting and said it reminded her of her Greek grandmother's house in New York. Now that I think of it, it reminds me of my aunt's back porch in rural Tennessee. We traveled to her house in the summer when I was a child living in Maine. For a while she still had an outhouse! It was a novelty to me then but I can imagine what it would have been like on a cold winter's night to have to go outside to visit that place! Fortunately for her and her visitors she did eventually get an indoor toilet!

Bushel and a Peck
This is one of the first acrylic paintings I have done in a while. I am going to a Danny Broadway acrylic workshop in April here in Memphis so I bought new acrylics. It is 30x30, a little larger than I usually do. It was fun and an advantage is that it dries quickly. Good to try something different!

Preferred Seating
I started this 36x48 painting for my kitchen 2 years ago right before I had hip surgery. I forgot about it until a few weeks ago. It would cost well over $100 to ship so I will probably sell it locally in the Memphis area.

Extravagance
Three x Three
I have grouped these three 6x8 paintings. They could be stand alone but are pleasing as a group whether in one frame or three. As you can see I am slightly addicted to flowers. They say you should paint what you love.I remember in college art courses you were supposed to convey some kind of angst about social justice or some big issue. But with my years of experience I have found that sometimes beauty is enough.

Zest
I have often described flowers by their personalities.Zinnias are the student council flowers. Always cheerful, hard working in the vegetable gardens, teacher's pet are the qualities of the zinnia. They would be elected most popular but not necessarily invited to the debutante ball.

Loves to Dance
I think of Geraniums as quite social and gregarious in the flower world.they have strong stems and bright colors, not easily beaten down by rain or wind. Of course they would be the first onto the dance floor. The delphiniums in the corner would be gossiping about those brash geraniums; but who is having more fun?

Another Story
This painting started out quite differently from the way it looks now. I liked the colors I had painted but it looked like a wall paper sample! No center of interest. I stared at it for a few days, then added some larger flowers that made all the difference. I wasn't paying attention to the elements and principles of design. Works every time you remember!

BEST INTEREST
I attended a Dreama Tolle Perry workshop in Kentucky about three years ago. It was actually there that I got inspiration to join Daily Paintworks. It has really changed my life .I went from painting occasionally to painting every day. Over 900 paintings later, I can see the difference it has made. I always wanted to go back and take another workshop with her but timing was never right. She has created an online 6 session workshop that starts next week. I am so excited to do this! This painting was done as "practice" for the work I will do in the course. I used the transparent colors she recommends and her "ice blue". I will let you know how it works out!

AFTER HOURS
This oil painting is on a thick stretched 24x 36 inch stretched canvas with black painted outside edge. I have painted mostly smaller paintings through daily paintworks because of cost of shipping larger paintings. Most likely this will end up sold locally or on a wall in my house!

Stars Aligned
I have started painting some on stretched canvas. This is an 8x8 with a thick profile with the edges painted black. This type ofpainting is meant to be hung without a frame. Painting on this type canvas has a different feel to it while painting, but I like it.I think back to the "dark ages" of the '70's when in college we stretched our own canvases and gessoed them. These canvases were pretty rough to paint on and I never got the painting in my head onto the canvas. The panels and canvas of the current day are so wonderful to paint on; I will never stretch again!

Time Change
I titled this one because the view has an expectant feeling, like maybe it is almost a seasonal time change or a change in weather is approaching. This is my favorite type of painting to do; i start with areas of color and transform them into flowers using darks and lights. I kind of hold my breath during- excited to see how it turns out.

Spanish Village
I had to wait to post this painting until after Christmas because it was a gift for someone and I was afraid he might see it on here. It has emotional content. This is a view of the village in Spain where his mother grew up. His family surprised him with it on Christmas.
It was a large (24x36) aiming but it shipped just fine to Delaware.
