Primrose

Primrose are plants hat I usually see as a potted plants. I think I like them so much because they are usually one of the first to show up in spring. I try to buy just one pot but always end up with 4 or 5. ( watercolor, 11x15)

Adirondack

This scene evokes memories of summers spent at a relative's house in the south. Iced tea for dinner and lightning bugs caught in mason jars to be used as night lights.

Hanging Laundry

All over Italy this is a common scene. We are so sophisticated here in the U.S that no one ever sees our laundry hanging outside as our grandmothers did. It is nice that we have the convenience of washers and dryers but maybe we are missing something. I love the shadows cast from the clothes.

Savannah Marsh

On a recent visit to Savannah we drove out to Tybee Island. I had always wanted to see the island. The timing was good because March is still a little chilly for crowds as I can imagine what it is like in the summer. The parking tickets are very freely given,I hear. The marshes are on either side of the road on the way out there. Some of my photos were taken as we drove by.

Misty Morning

We are attending a wedding in Athens, Georgia. The daughter of a childhood friend is getting married tonight and it is a wonderful celebration of laughter and friendship and the beginning of a new chapter. I have not been painting this week but am posting a painting I finished a while ago. It is a painting of the Northwest coast. It does a lot to lower my blood pressure to look at this scene.

  I took a lot of photos when we visited the Napa Valley last fall. I keep finding new ones to paint. This painting  is one of my favorites.

    This is a still life with pomegranates. I like the shapes and colors of this unusual fruit. I recently had a "light box" made for my still life set ups that makes it much easier to see the shadows and highlights. Add that to my new cushiony mat for my feet and I am good to go!

 I seem to be obsessed with daffodils these past few weeks. Something about them seems so cheerful---they are calling my name to paint them.

   I love terra cotta pots; I would even paint them without flowers in them. This time I didn't have to. There were beautiful flowers available.

  This is a still life where I used some transparent oil colors as an underpainting. I love the effect of the colors showing through the top layer of paint. It is always a surprise how it turns out.

Garden View

This is a painting of a beautiful garden in springtime (8x10). Everything seems to be blooming at once.I love all of the colors; one of my favorite things to paint.

WELL DRESSED TULIPS

  I picked these tulips up at the grocery store one morning when I was looking for something to paint.The red string was the perfect accessory to my favorite flowers.(watercolor 15x20)

DAFFODILS

   These daffodils can't help but to cheer us up in these winter months. There have been a few already blooming here in the south. These were a pleasure to paint. I love all the varieties of this flower. Welcome spring!

 Waterlilies make good painting subjects. The center of interest for the composition is pretty obvious and the shapes and reflections make a good natural composition. Longwood Gardens has a wonderful waterlily garden with every variety you can imagine

APPLES AND SILVER

 
  I enjoy the challenge of painting objects reflected in shiny surfaces. It adds a lot of interest to a painting.
  This painting is 12x12 inches.

TURQUOISE AND TANGERINE

 I found this bottle recently and wanted to paint it. The tangerine was the perfect accessory!

MR. BENTON

 Mr. Willie Benton was a client on our Meals On Wheels route for about 6 years. He lost his wife  a few years before he died in his nineties. and was quite lonely without her. He was fortunate to have a loving family who always came by and took care of him. We should all be so lucky.

Spring Bouquets

  I saw these flowers at an outdoor market. They were so pleasing in their colors and shapes that they composed themselves without any help from me.

Autumn Sun

 We live on a golf course and it is very beautiful. I don't play, but I enjoy the change of seasons. This is from a photo taken on a beautiful sunny fall day.

 These are four pots of flowers that I had photographed. I tried to make them abstract shapes rather than individual petals and leaves.Hopefully it works.
