DIVA

This painting reminds me of a self possessed diva on a stage somewhere. She is fully in command and brimming with self confidence.I remember one of the first Barbie outfits that came out. It was a black narrow evening gown with a tulle flounce at the bottom. It came with a microphone stand for Barbie to deliver concerts. That girl is multitalented! I see her as a diva just as this strong vase of flowers.

Personal Space

Have you ever noticed how some people invade your personal space when talking to you?It is like they never learned the simple rules of conversation. These tulips seem to have their personal space invaded. Of course they don't really mind. I like painting these close up views; it allows the viewer to make their own conclusions about what is missing from the picture-- a kind of fill in the blanks exercise.

Favorite Things

These colors are among my favorites. That specific blue violet color is an all time top five. The flowers seem to be active; ready for some action.!

By The Tracks

I have always been drawn to watertowers. I don't know why; it is something about the shape or the fullness of the tank. I can imagine cupping it in my hand if it were miniature. I know that sounds weird but what can I say. I have collected photos of them across the country.I have several from NYC but I realized in San Francisco I didn't see any. I guess maybe it is the earth quake factor.

Dream Come True

Tulips have always been one of my very favorite flowers. I remember in 4th grade writing to holland tourism and bulb companies for posters hoping they would feature tulips. I think they did send some to me. Reference material was difficult to come by in those days!

Confetti Time

I enjoyed painting these pink geraniums. I am taking an online Dream Perry workshop that emphasizes the use of transparent colors in the initial layer of paint. After starting with mostly dark transparents ; then opaque colors are added to lighten up the painting- the icing on the cake! A joyful process.

Winter Red

I love my bargain Amarylis. I bought it the week after Christmas for half price. It bloomed that week but last week bloomed again with 4 beautiful blooms. I wanted to paint more than just one plant so I repeated the plant at different angles on the canvas.next year I will buy more than one!

Door Number One

I must have taken 500 photos when we were in Italy. Everywhere was a photo opportunity. I don't remember if this was in Florence or Rome. The most humble abode had such an inviting look.

Oak Leaf Dance

Yes, I am obsessed with hydrangeas. My parents had several of these oakleaf hydrangeas along with the traditional blue. The leaves of this plant turn into beautiful reds and golds in the fall.
