Midnight Special

I like the idea of the jars of flowers at an unexpected time of day. They seem much more mysterious; perhaps imagine them in some exotic location- maybe Casablanca!

Clear Lake

Landscapes are harder for me to paint because there is so much to edit down to the size of the painting. I have to keep in mind what makes the most interesting composition. I always try to have some diagonals to combat boredom.

Pink Harmony

Single blooms are not really simple. In the close- up format every shape is important to the over all design .The flower is one basic color but the lighting causes new colors to emerge. This was fun to paint!

Exuberant Bouquet

This is my favorite type of painting to do. I seem to get into a "zone" when arranging the colors and shapes. It never looks exactly like the subject in front of me;my instincts take over. At times like these I am glad to take on the title of Artist.

Obstacle Course

This painting looks nothing like the photo I took. The photo was pretty dull and not as colorful. I changed that!

Mother's Quilts

This is a post Mother's Day post. My grandchildren slept here a few nights ago. They were fighting over a quilt on their bed that my mother had made years ago. She never had a chance to meet them but her presence is felt. When one of the girls was 4 she asked"Don't you miss your mom a lot?" I do.

Garden Delight

I just realized I tend to paint landscapes as more of a close up view. Also they often end up as a darker, more mysterious image. I don't know why, there is nothing dark or mysterious about me!

Blues Attract

I can't describe the feeling I get when I see certain color combinations. There is something about the combination of blue-green combined with other shades of blue that causes a little tingle up my spine. Of course this translates to needing to pick up a paintbrush immediately and try to paint. Caribbean Blue is one of those paint colors I can't live without.

Capture May

May brings memories of the "Lilac Lane" at Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania. The scent was powerful even a block away. I often just stood there overwhelmed by the beauty and heady fragrance.

Best of Spring

When painting things that are the same, I try to show some differences. That may be by a little bit different shape, lighting or position on the paper. I like to think each flower has its own personality; just waiting to break out in a solo role!
